Concealment Wings: What are they, and do I need one?

What is a concealment wing?

What is a concealment wing (sometimes called a “claw”)? It’s an arm-shaped piece that is attached to the side of your inside-the-waistband (IWB) holster, lending more surface area to the holster that will press against the inside of your belt or waistband. In effect, it rotates the grip of your gun in closer to your body, for better concealment and reduced printing.

What kinds of wings are there?

There are various wings on the market, and they go by different names. The two main ones that we’ll focus on here are the ones that we offer on our Moms Who Carry holsters are the ModWing, and the Fabriclip Wing.

The Fabriclip Wing

The Fabriclip Wing is used exclusively with the Fabriclip, it attaches to the holster in the same drill holes as the holster clip itself. Warfyter Equipment offers two different Fabriclip wings, the T-bar wing, and the Standard wing that we utilize on our holsters. The difference in Fabriclip wings is simply in where your holster has holes drilled, there are no advantages in one over the other.

The Mod Wing

The Mod Wing is a standalone wing that attaches where the retention screws would typically be placed on your holster, toward the bottom/side.

Mod Wings consist of the “spine”, and two interchangeable riser inserts of varying thicknesses.

Do I need a wing?

The short answer is yes, it’s almost foolish not to have one. The way it aids in concealment is invaluable.

Here’s a quick glimpse of the Mod Wing in action:

It doesn’t matter what your body type is, we could all use as much aid as possible to avoid printing. For a few dollars extra, this piece of plastic is worth its weight in gold.

What if my holster didn’t come with a wing?

Don’t go shopping for a whole new holster just yet. You may be able to attach the Mod Wing to your existing holster, provided that the holes for your existing retention screws are spaced properly (15 mm/0.6 inch).

You can find the Mod Wing for purchase on our website: https://momswhocarry.org/product/mod-wing. BE SURE TO READ THE DESCRIPTION, AS THE MOD WING WILL NOT FIT ALL HOLSTERS AS AN AFTERMARKET ADD-ON.

Mod Wing for Phlster Enigma compatibility

The Mod Wing is great for one other thing, its compatibility with the Phlster Enigma! Did you know that you don’t have to order a holster from Phlster to use the Enigma? Any of our Mod Wing Holsters will work with the Enigma!

Phlster has a Fit Guide with detailed information on their website. Here is a graphic taken from their website, which also showcases a couple of the other wing options on the market! But the bottom line is as simple as knowing that our Mod Wing holsters will work with the Enigma, because it’s all just about the hole spacing.

Keep in mind that Moms Who Carry holsters are crafted with adjustable retention. For a secure connection to your Enigma, you will want to purchase the fixed retention kit from Phlster.
